Autoclave 101- Statim 2000 & 5000
Your practice relies on your sterilization center to be operation smoothly and efficiently. If you are having trouble with your Statim, here are some quick things to check:
Leaking Steam
Steam can leak from a few different places on a Statim.
- If the steam is leaking out of the front
- Check how well the cassette seals
- To do this, first allow the cassette to cool off.
- Open and close it again. When closed, give the top and bottom a gentle squeeze together
- If you hear air escaping and returning, that means you have a good seal
- If you hear nothing, it is time for the seal to be replaced
- Replacing a cassette is very simple, simply follow the instructions on [THIS VIDEO]
- If the unit is still leaking steam after replacing the gasket, a new cassette may be required
- If steam is leaking out of the back
- Check and make sure all of the tubing is securely attached into their connectors.
- If it is loose, with a firm push, insert the tubing back into the connector until it is fully inserted
- Ensure it is secure by pulling on the tubing. If it does not pull out, the tubing is fully inserted
- If steam is leaking out near the waste bottle
- Ensure that the exhaust tubing is fully inserted into the cap of the waste bottle, and that the connector is screwed tight
- If you tighten the connector and it is still leaking, check to see if the compression sleeve is still on the tubing
- To do this, first unscrew the connector. Slide the nut away from the end (as pictured below) to see if the compression nut is present
- If it is not, contact us and we can get you up and running!
